Parry and Chung also confirmed that the new Skate game is in the very early stages of development. No gameplay or gameplay details were revealed, so it’s possible that the announcement of the new Skate game has come about due to recent fan demand. While fans have been asking Electronic Arts for a new Skate game for quite some time, various Skate-inspired games like the upcoming Skater XL and the return of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater could be what ultimately inspired EA to greenlight Skate 4.

It was just at the beginning of May that pro skateboarder Jason Dill leaked the news that EA had no Skate game in development, and so that does make it seem like the decision to move forward with this game was a very recent one. That would explain why EA didn’t even have a logo or anything to show fans. But considering how long Skate fans have been waiting for Skate 4, it’s safe to say that many will be satisfied with the confirmation alone.

Hopefully more information on Skate 4 comes to light at next year’s EA Play event or even sooner. This announcement combined with the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater remasters and the smaller skateboarding games coming out this summer and beyond seems to indicate that the skateboarding video game genre is enjoying a renaissance of sorts. Here’s hoping the titles live up to expectations.

Skate is in development for unspecified platforms.
