The broadcast rights in New Zealand for the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup have been given to Sky Sport.
The 2015 World Cup will be hosted by New Zealand and Australia and Sky Sport has reached an agreement with the ICC and its media partner Star Sports to carry on the live coverage of every game of the competition.
Sky Sport will also broadcast the 2014 ICC World Twenty20 from Bangladesh and the 2014 ICC U19 Cricket World Cup, which will be the first global cricket event played in the UAE. They will also screen few matches on free-to-air network Prime, whose details will be revealed closer to the start of the tournament.
“Cricket is our summer game and we all remember the buzz during the Rugby World Cup,” said Sky director of sport Richard Last, “so it’s fantastic news to be able to bring all the color and passion of the Cricket World Cup to New Zealanders in 2015. I’m positive Kiwis will really embrace another world sporting event being held in our beautiful country, and it’s fantastic Sky will screen every game of this popular sporting event live.”
Nitin Kukreja, Star Sports’ executive vice president for business development, said in an interview : “We are absolutely delighted to extend our relationship with Sky Sport for this prestigious marquee event. Being the leading broadcaster in the country, we are confident that Sky Sport will help create a lot of buzz around the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 and other events.”
Star Sport 1 will air the launch of the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup on 30th July. The tournament itself will be played in February and March of 2015.
