Something else that makes Skyrim unique is just how many platforms it’s available on. The game first came out in the Xbox 360/PS3 era, but Bethesda released the game’s Anniversary Edition in 2021 and Skyrim is even available on the Nintendo Switch.

All these ports don’t help with Skyrim’s stability, though. Bethesda continues to patch and update the game, but players still find new bugs and glitches to this day. One recent find was posted on r/skyrim by Redditor Kittenbun92. Instead of sitting in a chair, a child NPC sat down a few feet in front of the chair and glitched straight through a nearby table. This put his head right on top of a plate, making it look like the homeowner had some questionable eating habits.
What makes this moment even more amusing is that it is, in fact, possible to eat other people in Skyrim. Not only can the Dragonborn become a vampire or a werewolf and feed on people, but they can also join a cannibal cult and consume flesh while remaining completely human. On the other hand, children in Skyrim are completely immortal, so this particular plate will remain uneaten.
Glitches like these are arguably one of the reasons why Skyrim continues to have a stable fan base in spite of the success of The Elder Scrolls Online and other open-world RPGs like The Witcher 3 and the latest Assassin’s Creed titles. While bugs and glitches generally annoy players and take them out of the game’s immersion, sometimes a glitch can be unexpected and hilarious, turning an otherwise ordinary quest or town visit into a memorable moment the player won’t forget.
Of course, another reason gamers still play the game is because Skyrim is so easy to mod. Bethesda has made creating and adding mods a cornerstone of its single-player games since the days of Morrowind, and this has paid off for the company by giving its games longevity that single-player games don’t often experience. In fact, even Morrowind still has dedicated fans who believe it to be the best entry in The Elder Scrolls franchise.
