Skyrim is a game that is brimming with possibility and things to accomplish within the game world. So much so that players are still finding new things to do in Skyrim, despite the game’s age. Though, what people often forget is just how old Skyrim is. The game originally released on November 11th, 2011, exactly nine years ago today.

Today obviously marks the nine year anniversary of Skyrim’s release. Fans joined Bethesda Studios in celebrating the game’s anniversary with celebratory Tweets and Reddit posts. It’s amazing that a game that’s nearly a decade old has still maintained such impressive longevity in terms of its popularity and recognizability.
Outside of games like Grand Theft Auto 5, very few other games have managed to maintain their success and relevancy for such a long time, let alone nine years, in Skyrim’s case. Considering that the game has been ported onto the last two console generations and still possesses a dedicated PC modding community, it seems unlikely that the game’s popularity will dwindle anytime soon.
The gaming community has known of the existence of The Elder Scrolls 6 ever since E3 2018. However, since its initial announcement, Bethesda has yet to release any further news with regards to the game’s development, not even a screenshot teaser. Given that it’s nine years later and Skyrim is still considered a household title, Bethesda could have relied on the success of Skyrim for several more years, but now that Elder Scrolls 6 is in development, it will be incredibly hard to live up to the precedent that Skyrim has set. For now, fans of the game can continue to celebrate the game’s 9th anniversary.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
