Whether they’re dungeon-delving through perilous Dwemer ruins or getting in their daily kill of Nazeem in Skyrim, combat finishers often give players an extra flair to even the most mundane acts of violence. The effects are visceral, the feel is satisfying, and though some wondered if combat finishers were just a fad prior to the game’s release, most players agree that Skyrim wouldn’t be the same game without them.

Posted on the official Skyrim subreddit, SashoSim’s highlight reel of the game’s kill camera elicited a positive response from the community, as many players flocked to share their favorite moves or otherwise bond over their mutual love of Skyrim’s combat finishers. One of the comments rightly pointed out that the lack of any custom content only furthers the impression that Skyrim has aged remarkably well over the past decade in many respects.
That being said, the highlight reel does come with a few modded animations, but the vast majority of the ones showcased in the video can be found in the original game files. Given how popular V.A.T.S kills became in Bethesda’s Fallout franchise, it’s no wonder that the developers wanted to introduce an Elder Scrolls equivalent in some way.
While it’s still too early to tell if Starfield (and especially The Elder Scrolls 6) will have some kind of kill camera, there’s very little reason to believe that Bethesda will leave it behind in Skyrim. Though Starfield’s absence from Bethesda’s Developer Direct has raised some eyebrows, players should expect a special standalone showcase for the game in the form of a new Deep Dive into its gameplay. As enjoyable as slaying enemies in the Nord province can be, many Elder Scrolls and Bethesda fans eagerly await the new era of the Bethesda open-world experience.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available now on PC, PS3, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
