Redditor u/stephenie_t has made quite the discovery on July 31st while playing Skyrim, posting a picture as proof of Uthgerd the Unbroken holding a greatsword in one hand, a shield in her other, rather than using the sword as the intended two-handed monstrosity it can be for the player. With Uthgerd already being a capable, proud Nord the photo has ignited a delightful mixture of strong Nordic woman quotes and reasons why this might have happened within the comments.

For fans who may not find the Dovahkiin falling into step with Uthgerd during their travels through Skyrim, she can be found in Whiterun drinking to keep her dark past at bay in The Bannered Mare. Given the photo of her casually swinging a greatsword around as if it were a simple one-handed implement, it shouldn’t be shocking that the Dovahkiin will be challenged to a brawl when they first meet. Should the player emerge victorious, Uthgerd will then become available as a follower, and potentially a marriage candidate if the player so chooses. Uthgerd will be a source of Nordic wisdom, she will offer callouts in dangerous situations, and she could be considered lawful since she won’t do things such as steal or murder other NPCs.

Strange occurrences happen all the time in games where there are plentiful NPCs and objects to interact with, though not all of them are glitches. NPCs such as guards can have a bad time even without player intervention, though the situation Uthgerd finds herself in could certainly be labeled as a glitch given it seems to be an amalgamation of her default weapons and her ability to wield two-handed swords.

Uthgerd showing off her battle prowess aside, there’s no end to the fun that can be had with the oddities possible in Skyrim. With a stellar ten-plus years under its belt Skyrim continues to allow players to live as any sort of Dovahkiin they choose, whether that means quietly tending an alchemist’s garden at their chosen home, or spawning cheese wheels until the game stops being able to breathe.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Anniversary Edition is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
