A user by the name of CHIMgarden has decided that the dialogues in Skyrim need some variation. Not so much in the voice lines themselves, but more in the way that NPCs gesticulate when talking to the player. As a result, “Dialogue Animation Remix,” or DAR, adds more than 30 gesture animations, meaning that characters will move their arms in a more realistic fashion while talking, depending on context as well as their personality. The add-on is said to incorporate a much more dynamic form of animation when it comes to talking to the world’s many dwellers.

An accompanying series of videos show the mod in action, and it really does breathe a lot more life into the dialogue sections of the game as characters use gestures when they speak. According to the description page, it should be possible to install DAR alongside other NPC-based custom mods. So adding this to the Skyrim mod that implements 500 lines of new dialogue could prove to make the game that much more immersive and varied, if they are compatible with each other.

There is so much dialogue within Skyrim, but it’s fair to say that it was missing something up until this point, as characters tend to just stand still during conversations. The option to have them more animated during these moments injects an air of realism, or at least as much realism as can be imagined in a fantasy game about talking dragons.

Given the length of time the game has been out, it’s not surprising that there are so many different mods that either improve on the vanilla format or just add a lot more content. With Bethesda wanting The Elder Scrolls 6 to have as big a shelf life as Skyrim, it will be interesting to see, at some point in the distant future, whether fans will be just as dedicated to the next installment in the series as they are to this one.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
