Uploading the add-on to Nexus Mods a few days ago, veteran modder JaySerpa has managed to take a small side quest in Skyrim and bulk it out somewhat. Called “Caught Red Handed - Quest Expansion,” this mod adds more content to, as the name suggests, “Caught Red Handed,” the optional mission that takes place in Riften. Adding new choices, as well as fully voiced dialogue from spliced vanilla audio, it features additional ways for players to see the quest through. A video on the mod page gives an overview of what’s been added or changed.

In the vanilla version of the quest, players speak to Svana to help her shame Haelga. If players choose to accept, they will be tasked with collecting three Marks of Dibella from Haelga’s three lovers. In the game’s lore, Dibella is one of the Eight Divines in Skyrim and represents beauty. Collecting the three Marks is a relatively short task, but what “Quest Expansion” does is give players the option to side with Haelga instead, rather than shame her. By doing so, it’s possible to get on her good side. There’s also an opportunity to encourage Svana to stand up for herself.

JaySerpa has created many interesting mods in the past. Recently, they added around 500 new bandit dialogue lines into Skyrim and have made an add-on in which NPCs act annoyed when they’re woken up. Similar to this latest mod, these others utilize the chopping up and rearranging of dialogue that exists within the vanilla game to create new lines without having to record custom speech.

There are many incredible quests in Skyrim that can keep players busy for hours. People like JaySerpa expanding already existing ones just gives fans even more opportunity to keep playing. While The Elder Scrolls 6 is long overdue, the continued efforts of the modding community mean that this latest entry in the long-running franchise can potentially go on indefinitely.

Skyrim is available now for Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
