Uploading a brief clip to the Skyrim subreddit recently, user Amauer decided to see what it would take to wake up a sleeping dragon. It becomes pretty clear, despite how short the video is, that when a dragon is slumbering, it seems to take a while to rouse it. If there’s one thing that gamers have a propensity to do, it’s experiment with the games they love to see what works and what doesn’t.

In this case, it seems that dropping a set of heavy Ebony armor that Skyrim is known for does not apparently wake up the dragon. Banging said armor against something on the ground also doesn’t seem to do the trick, neither does bonking it on the head with the weighty cuirass. In all of these instances, the dragon remains restful, almost stoic against the player’s efforts. However, once they break out their fire spell and unleash some heat onto the animal’s face, that’s when the tides change and the beast rises from its restful sleep to attack.

Skyrim’s dragons are powerful enemies, ones that are pertinent to the game’s story. While overtime, players can become accustomed to fighting them, that heart racing drum music that kicks in when one looms over can really knock things into gear. It seems that this Reddit user was perhaps just looking for a new challenge, or was just kicking back in the world of Tamriel before deciding to bother the snoring beast, like poking a resting cat to see if it gets annoyed.

By this point, many fans have probably seen just about everything the game has to offer. With The Elder Scrolls 6 aiming to last just as long as Skyrim, it remains to be seen how fans will while away their time in the elusive entry in the franchise.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim - Anniversary Edition is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
