In an image uploaded to the Skyrim subreddit a few days ago, user Thefenixshoppe showed off their artistic skills through the medium of wood burning. The spectacular artwork depicts the silhouette of a dragon, hovering in the sky and getting ready to fight, as the Dragonborn leaps into action with sword in hand. Unsurprisingly, many in the comments have lavished praises upon its creator, with some asking in earnest whether they would be willing to sell their art. Another asked whether there was a video of the process to show the user’s technique, but sadly there isn’t.

Despite not having detail in the creature and player character, it’s still an instantly recognizable image from the game, depicting a scene that many fans have no doubt experienced during their playthroughs. Dragons are an integral part of Skyrim’s world, forming a significant part of the lore. That first sighting of the mythical creature in 2011, and even now perhaps, was something to behold, as one of the scaly beasts flew high up, all but blocking out the sun. Thefenixshoppe has captured the epic battle between dragon and Dragonborn exceptionally well.
It’s also not the first wood burning that a player has made, either. Last year, another Reddit user uploaded an image showing a Skyrim wood burning which depicted Alduin’s Wall. Again, much like this recent example, it shows not only the impressive skills that some in the community possess, but the impact that Skyrim has on others and the way it inspires artwork.
Even as one of the highest rated Elder Scrolls games, according to Metacritic, it’s quite astonishing that Skyrim has lasted as long as it has. It’s still going strong to this day, largely due to a dedicated mod community that continues to improve the overall experience, but also because of people like Thefenixshoppe who are committed to showing off their fan art.
The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
