Most Skyrim players visiting Whiterun will encounter Nazeem at some point, as his wanderings through the town are often punctuated by rude comments to the player. However, at least one player realized they hadn’t spotted the character at any point by the time they’d hit level 45.

Redditor jomarii went to the Skyrim subreddit to share their discovery with other players. After recognizing that they’d never seen Nazeem, jomarii used a cheat to access a hidden area of the game. The area is normally inaccessible over the course of the game, and acts as a storage place for named NPCs who have died. There, they ended up finding Nazeem’s looted body, with no explanation as to what had happened to him. Apparently at some point over the course of their playthrough, someone or something killed Nazeem.

While there were a few in the comments who expressed possible disbelief over the seemingly-random death of Nazeem, others pointed out a lot of ways that it could have happened. Skyrim has many random events that can transpire over the course of the game inside and outside of quests, including dangerous moments like dragon attacks. It’s entirely possible for Nazeem to end up suffering an untimely fate at the hands of someone other than the Dragonborn.

While some players might be disappointed at the loss of opportunity to get rid of Nazeem themselves, others would probably be happy just to not have to run into him. With Whiterun being one of the first areas that players visit in Skyrim, there’s more than ample opportunities for Nazeem to drop his trademark quip about the player having not been to the Cloud District. Even for newcomers to the game, it usually doesn’t take long to be irritated by him.

Skyrim has been out for such a long time now that many players have taken it upon themselves to not only put Nazeem out of the picture, but to do so in unusual ways. Players have trapped Nazeem’s soul in weapons, slapped him in VR, and at least one player has challenged themselves to kill Nazeem daily until Elder Scrolls 6 comes out.

The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
