Skyrim was released in 2011 and is the fifth major installment in the Elder Scrolls series. Within the game, players have hundreds of different weapons, shields, and armor from which to choose, but often the better the item, the higher level a player needs to be able in order to acquire it.

This post comes from u/frozenmollusk, and it details an interesting way to get one of the more powerful war axes in Skyrim. In the clip, this player walks up behind the Draugr Death Overlord in the Nordic tomb known as Volskygge and begins attacking it mercilessly. Instead of having to solve the Volskygge puzzle in Skyrim, this player found the exit to this area and snuck up on this enemy.

As they fight, u/frozenmollusk carefully dances around the throne that this Draugr Death Overlord was originally sat on in order to block the creature’s attacks. For minutes this player does everything right in this tricky battle where a single hit from the enemy would result in death. Finally, they are rewarded with the Ebony War Axe, an impressive weapon in the game, all while being level 1.

There are a long list of tombs and caverns that players can explore as they progress through Skyrim. Normally, these are to be tackled a bit later in a playthrough but u/frozenmollusk insisted on challenging this intense enemy soon after starting the game. Those looking to replicate this daring act need to enter the last room of Volskygge by going up the mountain and locating the exit. Players should probably save before entering to make sure they have multiple chances at this weapon dropping.

Skyrim lends itself to multiple playthroughs and this is a perfect example of taking the original game and adding in a new, exciting challenge. Ebony weapons can deal quite a lot of damage in Skyrim and make a playthrough a bit easier for those who can successfully get it, but it is far from easy to earn.

Then again, getting such an impressive axe early in a game can make the first few hours feel a bit unsatisfying. On top of that, the traditional path for a Skyrim playthrough is already quite rewarding. Either way, this post deserves a lot of credit from those in the Skyrim community.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
