With Fishing installed (free for Skyrim: Special Edition or Skyrim: Anniversary Edition), the Dragonborn can finally take up the relaxing art of fishing in the frozen lakes, cold rivers, and idyllic fjords of the Nord province in Tamriel – and one noteworthy catch to keep an eye out for is the Pearlfish.

Where to Catch Pearlfish in Skyrim
After equipping a fishing rod – which can be crafted with an iron ingot and a piece of firewood, or simply purchased for 30 gold coins at one of Skyrim’s numerous merchants – the player can make their way to the Orphan’s Tear shipwreck, situated along the shores halfway between the isle of Castle Volkihar and the statue of the Daedric Prince Meridia.
In addition to finding some fishing supplies (and a spare rod), a Freezing Waters fishing spot can be found in the area, as well as a guaranteed chance to obtain Pearlfish alongside the small islands to the northwest of the shipwreck.
One alternative option to getting one’s hands on a Pearlfish is by making their way to another Freezing Waters fishing spot located alongside the coasts west of Dawnstar, next to the abandoned sanctuary of the Dark Brotherhood in Skyrim. Even though Pearlfish can also be obtained through random luck while fishing on the Riften river, it is not the most optimal way to gather them.
What are Pearlfish Used For?
Classified as an alchemical and cooking ingredient, Pearlfish provide the following bonuses: Restore Stamina, Resist Frost, Fortify Smithing, Fortify One-Handed. As such, they are highly suitable for brewing elixirs that temporarily increase one’s Smithing skill, allowing for higher quality tempering and sharpening of one’s existing equipment, or the forging of better weapons and armor.
Should a fishing spot run out of fish, a player can simply wait for 24 in-game hours for the harvesting node to replenish – after which they can sink their hook once again, and reel in the fish they need. While not the most lucrative activity the Dragonborn can tackle over the course of their adventure, fishing offers a great alternative to obtaining just that one ingredient every burgeoning alchemist in Skyrim might be missing.
Skyrim is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
